Free Screening
Pre-Procedure Consultation
The Day of the Procedure
For those patients who are unable to attend one of the free LASIK consultations at the Caplan Eye Clinic or simply would like to get more information, we offer free screenings. At this visit, the doctor will determine if you are likely to be a good candidate for LASIK based on your glasses or contact lens prescription. We will also educate you about your available options and answer any questions you have about LASIK. We will be happy to discuss financing options at this visit as well.
A laser vision consultation/comprehensive eye exam is required before you proceed. The main purpose of this visit is to confirm that you are a good candidate for Laser Vision Correction and to determine which procedure is right for you. The doctor will perform a comprehensive dilated eye exam to make sure that there is no active eye disease or abnormality that would prohibit Laser Vision Correction. We will also determine your exact prescription and create a map of the surface of your eyes with a procedure called corneal topography.
Contact lenses, both soft and rigid, tend to alter the shape of the cornea to varying degrees. This can result in a change of your prescription. To ensure that the measurements we take of your eyes are reliable, you should discontinue wearing soft contact lenses for one week prior to the exam. Rigid gas permeable or hard lenses should not be worn for at least three weeks prior to the exam. In many cases, rigid lens wearers can be fit with a temporary pair of soft contact lenses during this time.
